Sandra Gadson
President, National Medical Association
Sandra Gadson is President of the National Medical Association. A nephrologist and founder of the first free-standing dialysis center in northern Indiana, she was also the first provider of dialysis services in Gary, Ind., where she is medical director of the Northwest Indiana Dialysis Center. Previously, she worked as vice president for diagnostics and therapeutic services within the Methodist Hospitals health-care system; in 1994 she became president of the medical staff at Methodist Hospitals, the first woman elected to that position. She also worked as assistant professor of internal medicine at Indiana University. Gadson has a long record of service with the National Medical Association, serving as president of the Northwest Indiana chapter and secretary of the board of trustees. In 1996 the chapter named her "Physician of the Year." She holds memberships in the National Kidney Foundation, the American Society of Nephrology and the American Medical Association. Gadson earned an M.D. at Meharry Medical College.
