Lady Barbara Thomas Judge
Chairman, United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority
Barbara Thomas Judge is Chairman of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), Chairman of the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London and Deputy Chairman of Friends Provident. She has had a wide-ranging international career as a senior executive in both the private and public sectors. Lady Judge served as the first female executive director of Samuel Montagu & Co. and of News International, the main U.K. subsidiary of News Corporation. In 1980 she was appointed commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; prior to that, she was a partner in the New York law firm of Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays and Handler. Lady Judge is a member of the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants, the Trilateral Commission, the U.K./U.S. Task Force on Corporate Governance and the governing body of the Ditchley Foundation. She is a director of numerous other international public companies and has written extensively on corporate governance, international accounting standards and nuclear power. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from New York University.
