Michael Morris

Michael Morris is Chairman, President and CEO of Ohio-based American Electric Power Co. Inc. (AEP), one of the largest utilities in the nation. He has led AEP's efforts to build an integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plant; to invest at least $4.1 billion to improve the environmental performance of generating plants; and to develop the AEP Interstate Project, a 550-mile transmission line running from West Virginia to New Jersey. Prior to joining AEP, he was chairman, president and CEO of Northeast Utilities System; president and CEO of Consumers Energy; and president of CMS Marketing, Services and Trading Company. Morris serves on the U.S. Department of Energy's Electricity Advisory Board, the National Governors Association's Task Force on Electricity Infrastructure and the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations. He also chairs the Ohio Business Roundtable and was the 2007 general campaign chair for the United Way of Central Ohio. Morris received bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Michigan University and a J.D. from the Detroit College of Law.
