Marianne Walck

Marianne Walck is Director of the Nuclear Energy Programs Center at Sandia National Laboratories, responsible for programs spanning the nuclear fuel cycle, including advanced nuclear energy technologies, safety and security analysis for civilian nuclear energy, and spent-fuel management, including nuclear waste. Previously, she was senior manager for the Nuclear Energy Safety Technologies Group at Sandia. She led five departments conducting R&D on the safety of civilian nuclear power and transportation of radioactive materials; in this role, she was responsible for all work conducted at Sandia for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Earlier, Walck led the Geophysics Department at Sandia, which conducts research and development related to energy and defense activities requiring knowledge of the Earth's subsurface. The author of more than 45 technical papers and published presentations, she is a member of the American Nuclear Society, the American Geophysical Union, the Seismological Society of America and the Association for Women Geoscientists. She received a bachelor's degree from Hope College and a master's degree and a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology.
