Brian Cornell is the CEO of Michaels Stores Inc., North America's largest specialty retailer of arts, crafts, framing, floral and seasonal merchandise for hobbyists and do-it-yourself home decorators. The company operates 971 Michaels stores and 167 Aaron Brothers stores. Prior to joining Michaels, Cornell was executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Safeway Inc., overseeing the company's marketing, merchandising, manufacturing and distribution operations as well as its online home delivery business. In 2005 Cornell was recognized by Supermarket News as Marketer of the Year. He has more than 20 years' experience in consumer products marketing and general management, including stints as president of Pepsi-Cola North America's (PCNA) Food Services Division and its senior vice president of sales. Before moving to PCNA, he was regional president for PepsiCo's European/African Beverage business. Previously he was president of Tropicana International and held positions with Tropicana North America, the Joseph E. Seagram Company and the Gallo Wine Company. Cornell received a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and attended the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
