Judy Burton
President and CEO, Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools
Judy Burton is President and CEO of the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools, a nonprofit charter-management organization focused on providing grade 9-12 and grade 6-8 public charter schools that outperform neighboring schools and prepare students for success in four-year colleges. Alliance schools serve high-poverty, overcrowded and historically low-performing school communities in Los Angeles. In the past five years, the Alliance has launched 16 charter schools that are among the top-achieving schools in Los Angeles Unified School District. The group has also raised $90 million in public and private grants for facilities, and school and corporate operations. Of the 11 LAUSD secondary schools named California Distinguished Schools in March 2009, four are Alliance high schools. Burton is a former LAUSD local district superintendent and has led numerous district-wide reform efforts. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master's degree from California Lutheran College.
