Eli Broad
Founder, The Broad Foundations; Founder-Chairman, KB Home and SunAmerica
Eli Broad is the Founder of The Broad Foundations, which seek to advance entrepreneurship for the public good in education, science and the arts. In the course of his 50-year career, Broad built two Fortune 500 companies from the ground up, serving as Founder-Chairman of KB Home (formerly the Kaufman and Broad Corp.) and SunAmerica. Through the Broad Education Foundation, he aims to improve urban public education through better governance, management, labor relations and competition. The Broad Art Foundation operates a lending library of contemporary art to museums and university galleries worldwide. The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Foundation funded the Broad Institute for biomedical research in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. A regent of the Smithsonian Institution and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Broad received the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy in 2007.
